Original art paintings are some of my very favorite ways of getting brand new art into my home or work, and often produce some interesting conversation.  By purchasing original art paintings you are many times supporting local artists who pursue their passion in life and the results can be fantastic.  I have personally found many a unique local artists that have amazing talent who literally just paint because they love it.

Where to find original art paintings

One of my favorite ways to buy original art paintings is browsing through nontraditional art galleries and by that I mean modern art painting galleries or downtown artsy galleries.  Finding a boutique art gallery may be difficult in your area, but search around and give a few places a call asking if they have original art paintings for sale.  You can get some very creative works just by looking around and perusing art galleries and not to mention you can meet some very unique people!
 

Other ways to find original art paintings

My other suggestion for finding original art paintings is heading over to the local swap meets and you can find some wonderful artists who may be selling their pieces here.  While it may seem odd at first to check out a swap meet for original art paintings, remember that most artists start out somewhere small and eventually hit the big time much later on.  By supporting your local artists early in their career you are in a sense building that same community you want to participate in.

Overall it is quite easy to get your hands on original art paintings so long as you are resourceful and pay attention to the local community.  Make sure you get involved and really support those local artists who produce original art paintings to help foster a great art awareness in your community.
